If a male is married in an unhappy relationship, is he more likely to be depressed than the female?

This is a true/false question for a psychology course.

This information is also provided with the question: Males are better off being married than females are.

Please provide some explanation or study if possible. Thank you for your help.If a male is married in an unhappy relationship, is he more likely to be depressed than the female?
i don't know. i have heard more men than women experience depression (not sure if this true), BUT, I've also heard men are more likely to tolerate a bad relationship, because men seem to be creatures of habit. once they find something they like (of even just something comfortable), they want to keep it even if it is not perfect. also, many men do not revolve their lives around their mates, and instead just go about their business and hope the woman follows. women, on the other hand, are far more likely to make large sacrifices for a marriage, and this makes them more unhappy and more likely to be depressed. also, more likely to leave. there are indeed many studies showing women initiate breakups more often than men, and women often rate their happiness as higher after a breakup, whereas men generally rate their happiness as lower after a breakup. i guess it will take a few more decades for men and women to work out the kinks and hopefully become more understanding of one another. If a male is married in an unhappy relationship, is he more likely to be depressed than the female?
That depends on your interpretation unhappiness. For some, drinking after work can be considered masking ones problems. Yet, some people will argue, its to relax and enjoy oneself. Generally, women are more open about feeling uneasy

or upset, so its usually more evident when a women is upset. So in this case, theres going to be a margin of error.

P.S. I've taken various courses in the field of Psychology and this is just my own interpretation. Best of luck. CJ
