How do we file taxes if we haven't been married the whole year?

My husband and I didn't get married until March of 2008. Since we were single at the beginning of the year do we file as 'single' or do we still have to file jointly? How do we file taxes if we haven't been married the whole year?
You can file jointly. Your filing status is just a way for the IRS to determine what tax rate to apply to your joint return.

File married jointly, I didn't get married until Dec 27, 2008 and I'm doing it. In a few rare cases it can be beneficial to file married filing seperately. If you are unsure about which is best, I would see a tax specialist.
You file as married.

Tax status is determined as of December 31 of the tax year.
Close enough. If you were married December 31, that is all that is necessary.
