How is it possible that atheists can think they are married?

Marriage is a religious institution, given by God.

Athesits are only civil partners at best. Why do they pretend to call their unholy unions ';marriage'; it is an affront to Jesus. How is it possible that atheists can think they are married?
The only legal marriage is a Civil Union.

Marriages carried out in churches have to be registered as Civil Unions to be considered legal.

Therefore a simple Church wedding without the secular part is not a marriage.

The religious mumbo jumbo is irrelevant. How is it possible that atheists can think they are married?
Because of a little piece of paper called a marriage license. Maybe you heard of them. It's the same paperwork filled out by Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, and anybody else who wants to get legally married in the United States.

The U.S. isn't a theocracy. Your religion doesn't get to define marriage for everybody, just as Buddhism doesn't get to define legal death certificates. Get over it.
I understand what your getting at but... how do we know all the professed ';Christian'; marriages are sanctified by God? Just because 2 people decide to get married in a church doesn't mean they are believers. Besides, American culture doesn't insist that the union be spiritual or religious.
Quite frankly, I dislike the concept of marriage. It makes it too much of a forced obligation and love should never be forced or enforced by the church or the courts. As much as I hate to align myself with the hippies, I'd say free love is the way to go.
A lot of people are writing their own vows and leaving the good Lord out of it. Most people wouldn't know how to keep a vow if they tried. Marriage has unfortunately become a joke to many. I am with you. Marriage is holy and sacred and should be until death do us part, not when the going gets rough.
This question makes me laugh. This Is completely prejudiced. So, you think the only religion in the world fit to have lifelong partnerships of

commitment is Christians? Well I have news for you, only 30% of the population is christian.

Athiests believe in happiness. We know we only have one life so we have the best one we can.

It says in the bill of rights everyone is made equally so live with it.
';Marriage is an estate of earthly kingdom.';

You are a intolerant bigot who thinks that even Protestants are atheists...

There is no difference between you and a Taliban!

By the way: I'm not married and that's none of your business.
Religion and marriage have nothing to do with each other, except maybe the term ';marriage.'; people have been bonding like that since the dawn of man (you know, millions of years ago? When man slowly adapted from a monkey?)
They are married in the eyes of the law. Your narrow idea of marriage does not apply to the 21st century, it is outdated.
Are you for real? My relationships are ';unholy';? And you wonder why we want you out of our political system. Anybody who believes in fairy tales (or talking snakes) shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the axis of power.
I hope that your kid doesn't grow up to be as narrow minded, ignorant, and intolerant of other people as you are, because frankly who needs another close minded bigot like you in the world. That'd be just sad.
How can you be for real? You are so over the top! How did you get a TC badge?

There's no way. Either Christians are stupid, or you ask questions from a different account and give yourself BA.

My mind is officially blown.
I like how many people are oblivious to your trollery. But to answer your question, it's law that deals with marriage, not religion.
I've read loads of your questions, do you realise how stupid you sound? I don't think you deserve to be a parent, poor kid is gonna have idiotic ideas forced on him
it is marriage in the civil sense. They are not married in the Godly sense nor are they as smart to acknowledge that every right institution comes from theists.
oddly enough, marriage predates christianity so your point is moot - or do all the marriages performed BC and indeed in other religions not count in your eyes either?
Newsflash:

Christians didn't invent marriage. And it is nothing to do with God.

But that's okay, you don't care.
Marriage is not a union of two people by God it's a union of two people by the state.
Well when a man and a woman love each other very much they decide to get it o........ married (oh and P.S. ur phony bologna god did not event marriage it was before him so stop acting all high and mighty.
What if my wife is a Lutheran? Is she married and I'm not? If so you should come on over, I'm sure your husband can keep an eye on your kid...
marriage has nothing to do with religion anymore, its a matter of society.
We don't have to believe in order to be married. They have judges were they can unify two people now.
You're grabbing at straws. As a Christian, I think it's completely obvious that this question is a troll question.
Dude, you have too much time on your hands. Marriage was around way before Jesus.
How is it possible that your kids haven't been taken away from you and placed in a safe home?
We're not married, and we swing with couples that are. How does that make you feel?
We pretend to be married to spite God.
same reason christians do, I have legal documents issued by the state to prove it
I'd answer if you cared for it.

You're not going to listen anyway.
they are sinners who defy gods word and they will pay when they burn in hell
