I was asking a feminist friend how she would feel about being with a guy who earned much less than her, ';that wouldn't happen';. Was her response. How come the male doctor is aright with getting married to the nurse?
The obedience in the hospital unit hierarchy has to be complete or else the head of the unit, namely the doctor is answerable. It therefore is easier for a male doctor to rule over his female nurse whose role in the hospital setting is to follow through implicitly the commands of the doctor. For the woman doctor to be the boss of a male nurse in the same unit with whom she is romantically linked, maybe asking for trouble. However I don't see any problem with a female doctor marrying anyone else who makes less than her be it a male nurse or anyone else
Because traditionally, the man is the breadwinner. i do know of one instance, where a construction worker married a filipino nurse. She later went to medical school and became a surgeon. Her income soared to in excess of 600,000. They had one son. They stayed married and raised the child together. When he went to college, they liquidated all assets, (millions) and retired in asia and did missionary work for the poor. this man was a carpenter. He loved his work, and this is what supported the family when she was in medical school. They are as much in love today as when they got married. She loves him for what he is, not how much he makes. Of course, she is asian, and views marriage totally different than an american woman. maybe that's why they are still together and still happy.
good question. The answer is that society doesn't see it as being equivalent. And I wish that nurses made much more money - for the hard work they do, they deserve a MUCH better wage.
Doctors and Nurses have romantic liaisons all the time - it's Doctors and Secretaries that don't! Doctors don't marry that far down!!!
Ask the female doctor want to marry down?
Male doctor dont mind marrying down.
