How long does a person have to be married before the government can take away the other person's green card?

the green card holder needs to lift the conditions with the spouse. after that GC holder gets the 10 year card, he/she can pretty much do whatever.

Looks as though you jumped into something before you thought it through.





Once the resident has their 10 year Green Card you should be able to divorce without consequence, but bear in mind, it may look very suspicious to the INS - who have seen this ALL before - not only will your spouse loose their status and be deported, but you would have committed a felony and may end up in rather big trouble. Fraud against the US Govt., is not looked upon lightly.





Try to make the best of your ';marriage'; - you've already made your bed....
Depending on what country they are from any where from 2-5 years. My husband is from Mexico and for us the wait is 5 years. But I would wait a year or two afterwards cause now they are saying it would be considered a felony if the ins finds out you only got married for papers.
